From Left - Ernest & Alfred Clawson
The Clawson family came to Sikiyou Co. around 1867. The earliest record found was the
1867 great register, which lists Ebenzer Clawsen who brought his family to Scott Valley
Township. Ebenezer, (son of William Clawson native of New Jersey) had married Sarah Wilson in North
Carolina and in the late 1840's moved to Tenessee, utnil they left for the west coast in
1854. Ebenezer and his sons Samuel, Charles, Eli, Joseph, and Hugh were living in
Josephine Co. Oregon by 1860, and in Scott Valley later that decade.
The Clawsons remained in Siskiyou County California and Southern Oregon for several
generations. Several are buried in the Hornbrook/Henley cemetery. The family in the
photos are the children of Samuel Clawson and Annie Salina Iles.
